Dutenhoffer Nets Finals A-Main
Mathison Secures Mod Tour Title

Watertown (SD) - The second night of the Fall Shootout saw the Advantage RV's Modified Tour sponsored by Watertown Ford Chrysler at Casino Speedway, Watertown, SD. Twenty-nine modifieds were present for the finale of the 2015 tour. Brent Dutenhoffer won the 85 lap feature from the outside pole followed by Jason Grimes from fourth and Kent Arment from the pole.

Three drivers advanced from each of the four heats, with two entering the Bullet Sportswear redraw for position. The starting positions were: Kent Arment, Brent Dutenhoffer, Alex Guthmiller, Jason Grimes, Jason Voight, Mike Stearns, Curt Gelling and Tyler Peterson. The two B Mains pulled in four drivers each to complete the 20 car field.

The first 12 lap heat sponsored by Out-Pace Racing Products had a difficult time getting started with two yellows on the first lap; Tyler McDonald broke and was unable to continue the rest of the night. Jason Grimes took the win from the outside pole, followed by Jason Voight from fourth, and Matt Gilbertson maintaining third. Quickcar Racing Products sponsored the second heat which was won by Tyler Peterson from seventh, Curt Gelling maintaining second, and Travis Saurer coming up from sixth. R2C Performance sponsored the third heat, which saw Mike Stearns winning from the outside pole, Kent Arment from third, and DJ Tesch falling back from the pole on their way to the big race. The final heat included two yellow flags which did not deter Dutenhoffer from winning the race; second was Alex Guthmiller from fourth, third went to Matt Steen holding that position throughout with the sponsor being Wehr Machines.

Real Racing Wheels sponsored the two B Mains. Drivers advancing from the first B Main were Scott Ward, Dave Cain, Jayson Good and Jordan Foster. The second B Main brought Dale Mathison, Trevor Anderson, Scott Hansen and Jesse Young into the feature.

Arment started on the pole and held that position for sixteen laps when Dutenhoffer passed him; Dutenhoffer held the lead for the rest of the race. Voight claimed second with 25 laps down. A yellow on lap 40 allowed the racers to take the mandatory 5 minute break for refueling and minor adjustments, although no tires or spring changes were allowed. This also allowed the track to change; the rubber took over and few positions changed for the rest of the race except during restarts after the three yellows and a great move by Grimes to take second on the final lap. At half way it was Dutenhoffer, Voight, Arment, Grimes, Gilbertson, Stearns, Peterson, Guthmiller, Gelling, Ward, Saurer, Mathison, Cain, T Anderson. With 29 laps left a yellow flew for Ward in turn four; he left as well as Gefroh and Guthmiller. With 19 laps left Voight made an attempt on Dutenhoffer, but it was not successful and he fell back to fourth. With eight laps left Cain was spun in turn four by Steen. The final lap had Grimes taking Arment as they raced to the finish line.

The Allstar Performance Hard Charger Award was awarded to Dale Mathison; the Intercomp Crew Chief Award went to Scott Buesman of Gilbertson Racing.

Glenz Captures Melee Finale

Hibbing (MN) - [Courtesy of the Mesabi Daily News] There was an extra buzz in the pit area Saturday night at Hibbing Raceway as the evening included the final leg of the Minnesota Melee swing of the Advantage RV Modified Series. Thirty-two WISSOTA Modifieds from various areas of WISSOTA brought an extra level interest to the event.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks kicked off feature racing action and early on Mike Vajdl jumped to the lead. Vajdl’s lead was short-lived however as Andy Labarge raced by to take command. Labarge’s cousin Tristan followed suit and the race became a battle of the Labarges. Andy continued to lead Tristan using the inside groove while Tristan moved up the track to look for a way past. The lead duo remained close the rest of the way with Andy scoring the victory. Trevor Arens grabbed the final podium spot behind the Labarges after charging forward from the ninth starting position.

With bad weather entering the area, the WISSOTA Modifieds were shuffled to the next finale as the featured class. Heading into the event, Dave Cain and Dale Mathison came into the race in a dead heat at the top of the points but when the dust settled it was young Cadott, Wis., drive Jesse Glenz that stole the show. Glenz led all 40 laps and was never seriously challenged en route to his second career Advantage RV Series win. Kelly Estey worked forward into second using the same bottom groove that propelled Glenz to his large lead and a late caution gave Glenz’s challengers one last opportunity but he was once again up to the task as he rolled to the win. Estey, finished in the runner up spot just ahead of 17th starting Jeff Broking. By virtue of his sixth place finish, Dale Mathison of Clearwater, Minn., left Hibbing with the points lead as the series takes a few weeks off before their Summer Sizzler Nights swing in western Minnesota and South Dakota.

Eight laps into the Late Model feature, the sky opened up and the rains came, forcing officials to call the remainder of the program. The remaining features will be made up in future weeks.

The Allstar Performance Hard Charger was Jeff Broking; the Intercomp Crew Chief Award went to Jake Molitor - Mathison Racing.

The two B Mains pulled in six drivers each to complete the 24 car field.

Four caution flags marred the first five laps of the main but the remaining laps remained green. Dale Mathison caused one of the cautions when he spun in turn 3 and was sent to the rear, but after ten laps he was up to fourth. Stearns led the first 27 laps but was overtaken by Grimes coming out of turn two with eight laps remaining. Mathison passed Stearns in the last five laps.

Ward Brings Home The Brown County Bacon

Aberdeen (SD) - August 8th, 2014, saw the Advantage RV's Modified Tour sponsored by Watertown Ford Chrysler at Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen, SD, for the first night of the August Ambush. There were 30 modifieds in attendance. A couple of interesting happenings made the track fast. First, the incident with the water truck tipping over between turns one and two drenching that part of the track, Removing the water truck from the track, taking the driver/promoter to the hospital, and packing the water into the track put racing behind schedule. As the late models came out for their feature it started to rain. The cars could not keep up with the rain on the track, so the track was farmed and packed with the result being an exceptionally fast track.

Scott Ward won the 30 lap feature from the outside pole with strong challenges by Stearns, and Cain; four yellow flags did not help anyone catch Ward although Stearns led two of the last five laps.

Three drivers advanced from each of the four heats, with two entering the Bullet Sportswear redraw for position. The starting positions were: Todd Stark, Scott Ward, Jordan Foster, Dave Cain, Mike Stearns, Chad Olsen, Scott Hansen, and Trevor Anderson. The two B Mains pulled in eight drivers to complete the 20 car field.

Ward took off like a rocket from the very start, followed by Stark, Cain, Foster and Stearns. Further back in the pack cars were constantly changing position. At half way, Ward was leading followed by Cain, Stearns, Stark, Olsen, Foster, Grimes, Gilbertson and Arment. A yellow with five laps remaining saw 14 cars left with the top five being Ward, Stearns, Cain, Olsen, Grimes. Stearns led the next two laps. Another yellow put Ward back in the lead and headed to the checkers.

The Allstar Performance Hard Charger was Travis Saurer (16th to 8th); Out-Pace Racing Products ½ way leader was Scott Ward; the Intercomp Crew Chief Award went to Rollin Stearns (Stearns Racing).

A Little Weather... A Lot Of Great Racing

Watertown (SD) - The Advantage RV Mod Tour presented by Watertown Ford Chrysler got off to a somewhat bumpy start... racing... rain... racing... rain. The Tour managed to only complete two of the scheduled Tour events during the Memorial Mod Madness Swing. Let's take a glance at the action and some reschedule information.

Norman County Raceway (Ada, MN)
The first night of the “Memorial Mod Madness Swing” of the Advantage RV Modified Tour presented by Watertown Ford Chrysler, was held at Norman County Speedway, Ada, MN, on May 23, 2013. The hot laps were sponsored by SpectraMX.

There were 44 Modifieds signed in to vie for the $1,500 purse. Cody Skytland came from fifth in the redraw to win the race, followed by Alex Engelstad from third and Justin Jones from sixth.

Three drivers advanced from each heat race with the remaining eight coming through the B Mains. The drivers redrawing for position created the starting 12 positions as follows: Jamie Trautner, Todd Stark, Alex Engelstad, Seth Brede, Cody Skytland, Justin Jones, John Corell, Jeff Lien, Jr., Travis Saurer, Andy Gordon, Matt Gilbertson and Blake Jegtvig.

The first heat sponsored by Eibach Springs, found Travis Saurer taking the lead from the outside pole, followed by Jamie Trautner and Cody Skytland from eighth. The second heat sponsored by AFCO Racing Products, put Andy Gordon into the main together with Alex Engelstad from ninth, and Justin Jones. R2C Performance sponsored the third heat and saw Seth Brede from eighth, Todd Stark and Blake Jegtvig from eleventh, on their way to the big race. The final heat went to Matt Gilbertson having started ninth, John Corell and Jeff Lein, Jr. with the sponsor being Qa1 Performance.

Real Racing Wheels sponsored the B Mains. The four drivers advancing from the first B Main were Matt Aukland, Mike Stearns, Dave Mass and Scott Ward; the second B Main brought Austin Arneson, Dale Mathison, Michael Johnson and Corky Thomas into the feature.

In the feature Todd Stark led Jamie Trautner and Cody Skytland in the early laps of the 40 laps, but a spin in turn four brought out the caution; during the yellow, Trautner?s car caught on fire, Stark had mechanical problems and both left the track, giving Skytland the top spot which he held until lap 29. At that time Engelstad stole the spot momentarily, Skytland took it back and pulled to nearly a full straightaway lead, with Engelstad finishing second and Jones third.

In the Bullet Sports Wear Fan Challenge, Lynn Ormang chose Alex Engelstad to win the race. The Allstar Performance Hard Charger was Scott Ward; Out-Pace Racing Products ½ Way Leader was Cody Skytland, and Hwy. 20 Service Tesoro Long Tow Award went to Curt Myers.

The second night of the “Memorial Mod Madness Swing” of the Advantage RV Modified Tour presented by Watertown Ford Chrysler, was to be held at I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN. Unfortunately, Mother Nature flexed her muscle and prevailing rain showers force a postponement of the race date which will possibly be rescheduled in the near future.

Jamestown Speedway (Jamestown, ND)
The third night of the “Memorial Mod Madness Swing” of the Advantage RV Modified Tour presented by Watertown Ford Chrysler, was held at Jamestown Speedway, Jamestown, ND, on May 25, 2013. The hot laps were sponsored by SpectraMX.

Grimes was followed by Dale Mathison, who started fourteenth, and third was taken by Mike Stearns with a sixth place start.

Three drivers advanced from each heat race with the remaining eight coming through the B Mains. The drivers redrawing for position created the starting 12 positions as follows: Josh Eberhardt, Corky Thomas, Rusty Kollman, Dave Mass, Justin Jones, Mike Sterns, Aaron Olson, Tyler McDonald, Matt Gilbertson, Scott Ward, Jason Grimes and John Corell.

The first heat sponsored by Eibach Springs, found Mike Stearns taking the lead from the outside pole, followed by Justin Jones and Rusty Kollman. Real Racing Wheels sponsored the B Mains. The four drivers advancing from the first B Main were Mike Johnson, Andy Gordon, Matt Aukland, and Austin Arneson; the second B Main brought Dale Mathison, Ward Imrie, Corey Seckerson and Jerry Lamb into the feature.

In the truly exhilarating feature Josh Eberhardt led the first three laps, but the yellow for a spin in four gave Mass the opportunity to take the lead. Meanwhile, Grimes was coming up through the field from eleventh, and at lap 15 passed Mass for the lead. Mathison was also steadily coming up from fourteenth and took second putting Stearns in third and Mass in fourth. Eberhardt broke with five laps to go sending him home with DNF and 20th position.

In the Bullet Sports Wear Fan Challenge, Ron Neitzel chose Mike Stearns to win the race. The Allstar Performance Hard Charger was Tyson Turnbull; Out-Pace Racing Products ½ way leader was Jason Grimes and Hwy. 20 Service Tesoro Long Tow Award went to Ryan Kereluk.
